WAIMEA — Parker School Dramatiques is putting on the famous 1975 Broadway musical, “A Chorus Line: High School Edition” as their annual spring production, with three final shows this weekend.
Set on a bare stage, “A Chorus Line” examines a day in the lives of 17 dancers as they audition for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical. After a vigorous series of dance numbers and the first round of cuts, the director and choreographer ask each dancer to share their personal history and aspirations before making the final cut. By the end of the show, the audience can identify with each dancer, see their individuality and understand why each has chosen to endure a life of rejection, injury and heartache to perform. This critically acclaimed box office hit ran on Broadway for 15 years and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama and nine Tony Awards, including best musical.
Parker students will perform “A Chorus Line” in the school’s historic theatre at 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday night, and 2 p.m. Sunday. This production is recommended for those 12 years and older. The show is approximately 90 minutes long and will be presented without an intermission.
Tickets are available at the door for $10 general admission and $5 for all students.
Dramatiques is Parker School’s after-school performing arts program which consists of students in grades 6 through 12, who offer a fall and spring production each year. Parker students are involved in both onstage and behind-the-scenes aspects of this production.
